The net.art movement is super interesting to me. Because I was born in '99, I never knew or heard anything about this movement. I like that there were a variety of ways that these artists expressed themselves, their political views, and their general dissatisfaction with the world. I think Jodi.org it a really interesting concept to me. Its definitely a product of its time though. I think having an interactive website back in the mid 90s' was definitely something new, and different from what people were used to doing (i.e. sending emails, looking at documents, playing games that came downloaded with the computer)
I think that this was also one of the beginnings of the internet where people got to express a whole new side of themselves without necessarily having to reveal parts of themselves in either reality or on the online world, for example, having new personas, different beliefs, etc. In the article, the author mentions the website Brandon, which explored someone who was born biologically in a female body, but identified as a man. Transgender rights are still being fought against in the 2020's, so comparing it to back in the 90's, having a place to explore new identities must have been a breath of fresh air for people questioning their gender and sexuality. Net art seems very formative for behaviors on the internet. Instead of seeming like a school and business only platform, to me net art seems like it opened up a whole new perspective on how people could express themselves and connect with others specially in an online space.
